My husband’s quartet performed at a small town festival and a county fair over weekend.
Little David tried out Daddy’s mic after one performance. He was a bit shy, but we managed to get a few bars of the ABC’s out of him.
Perks of being with the band?
Free admission to the fair.
Whoot!
Oh, the glamorous life that is mine.
Well, I had some time to kill while they set up at the fair, so I took in the sights.
I actually love going to the fair. My favorite part, believe it or not, is getting to see all the animals.
I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I used to go visit my Grandma’s farm as a kid. I have some fond memories that include finding eggs in the hen house, feeding a calf with a bottle and climbing the hay elevator up to the loft. That last thing was pretty stupid. Don’t try it at home kids. Somehow my cousin and I did make it to the top with out plummeting to our deaths. Wonder if my mom even knew I did that?
There were some unusual animals on display at the fair like this lion head rabbit. The photo doesn’t do him justice, but he really did look like he had a mane.
Then there were these funky chickens. Yikes!
What county fair is complete without it’s share of cows?
There were also some long-haired cows. I think these are Scottish Highland Cattle.
The barn called “Miracle of Birth” was full of mama sheep and their newborn lambs. The little lambs were so sweet.
Here’s my son studying some pigs. No one in the family lives on a farm anymore, so this is the only time he gets to see these animals up close.
The exhibit buildings had a lot to offer too like this quilt display…
And the giant pumpkins. This really got me in the mood for fall.
I can’t leave out the farm equipment display.
Of course, David’s favorite part of the fair was the midway. He was too short for many of the rides, but he loved the swings.
The Ferris wheel was another of his favorites.
O.K. I’m done boring you with my silly pictures now.

I loved seeing your pictures! I, too, am a sucker for the animals at the fair, particularly the horses. I think it’s a throwback to my old 4-H days (short lived) when I aspired to show my pony at the county fair. The closest I got was receiving the “golden shovel” award for being so diligent in mucking stalls. I even got my picture in the paper – and I was SO PROUD! But back when I was 8, I’d do about anything to be near horses. (-:

P.S. Those are some f-u-n-k-y lookin’ chickens!
looks like a lot of fun!
Well, your mother knows now, if she did not know before. But I think she has told me about her doing the same thing when she was growing up.
This is the “America” that people who live in cities just don’t ever understand. I loved the County Fair. It was the highlight of the entire year.
BTW, those are some ugly chickens!
There’s nothing like an American country fair. I know. I have been to an Australian version and, though similar…not the same. I like both. Somehow, seeing these photos made me a little bit homesick. I sure wish we could have joined you for this fun visit! Well, we will one day!
We love fairs too! Thanks for sharing!
