I have to admit I was never a fan of Kix cereal. But my interest was piqued when My Blog Spark offered me the opportunity to try new Honey Kix.

I brought home a box and the whole family tried it out. Well, everybody except the baby. The verdict? We all like it. Even the picky four year old who normally won’t eat anything except cereal with marshmallows or chocolate in it. The honey adds just enough sweetness to the cereal.

Honey Kix is packed full of vitamins, low in sugar and high in fiber making it a healthy choice for families.

My Blog Spark is giving away one Honey Kix prize pack. The pack includes a coupon for a free box of Honey Kix, a Honey Pot, a cereal bowl, a container to take your milk and cereal on the go and a cereal keeper.

To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what you usually eat for breakfast.

The contest will end at 11:59 p.m. August 7th. Open to US residents only.

Past and Present

I wrote about my Grandma coming to visit this week. Here we are, four generations all together.

4gen

O.K., so my mom’s eyes are closed, I have three chins and David is wearing his fireman costume. Grandma and Wade look alright.

But there’s more to this picture.

Look closer.

Two lives at their beginning.

Two lives in the middle.

A life nearing sunset.

And then there is this.

(Oh, that looks better doesn’t it? Maybe I should have just cropped the rest of us out to begin with.)

Great-grandma holding the brand new great-grandchild.

So many years behind her. So many ahead of him.

The possibility of new life. The wisdom of a life lived.

If only you could bottle all that possibility and wisdom, shake it up and hand it out to those of us in the middle.

It’s not that easy is it?

But we can learn from our history. And have optimism enough to apply those lessons to a future where we believe anything is possible. To honor those ahead of us, and to leave something better for those behind us.

The blogging marathon continues…

The weekend after The 4th, the guys and I all went to an Antique Gas & Steam Tractor show.

Yep.

Because I’m country like that now.

And because I live in a house full of boys.

I thought David would really like all the tractors and big steam machines. He wasn’t quite as interested as I hoped. But he did have fun.

David really wanted to climb on the tractors. He thought this one looked like it was just his size, and he’s exclaiming his displeasure after Dave told him to stay off of it.

The park where the show is held is the perfect setting. It had this old time village in the center of it. Isn’t it quaint? There are even people sitting on the porches outside the old store fronts.

There’s even a full scale steam-powered saw mill at the park. It wasn’t operating when we were there, but the steam engine was running. David almost wet his pants when the engine shot off a big stream of steam from it’s pressure relief valve. It was really loud.

Had A Bad Day

June 4, 2009 · 2 comments

I burned and crashed today like a 747 falling out of the sky on fire.

Wade was fussy the night before and kept me up for hours. When I finally got him quiet, I laid awake despite my exhaustion, the caffeine and erratic sleep patterns taking their toll me.

I cried at 3 a.m. and again at five just because I was so tired.

Then I was cranky all day today. I desperately needed a nap, but I couldn’t get David to take one. So no nap for me either.

I shouted at David when I shouldn’t have. I punished him for little things that didn’t matter.

I really lost it when he spilled red Koolaid on the carpet. It was an accident, but I acted like he did it on purpose, just to spite me.

The poor kid.

I prayed for patience, asked David for forgiveness.Wondered what Wade thought of this crazy woman who was yelling while he tried to sleep.

I’d held it together pretty well the last three weeks. But today was the breaking point.

Things got better in the evening. And even after all my shouting and carrying on David crawled up on my lap and said, “I love you Mommie.” Boy was that just the thing I needed. I was still tired, but my frustration melted away after that.

Well, tomorrow is another day. Tonight, another chance to sleep.

My Hotsling and Miracle Blankets arrived today!

slingbox

I’m still getting used to using the sling. It takes a few practice runs to get the baby positioned just right in it. I plan trying to use it all day tomorrow.

I used the Miracle Blanket straightaway this afternoon. Wade was fussy for hours, and I couldn’t get him to settle. So I gave him a bath,

then swaddled him in the blanket. He was calmed down and was out in a few minutes.

Here’s David’s latest Big Wheel trick. I think he has a future as a stunt car driver.
