About

Mommie Daze is about my life as a SAHM, and what I affectionately call The Fog of Motherhood.

You’ve heard of the Fog of War right? In the heat of battle soldiers get confused and don’t know who they’re shooting at or what’s happening around them.

Well, some days motherhood is like that.

You know.

Like when the baby is screaming for a bottle, but they’re all in the dishwasher and it’s only halfway through the cycle, the dog is throwing up the Happy Meal toy he chewed up on the beige carpet, and the pre-schooler is running around the house with your bra on his head singing the theme song to SpongeBob as loud as  he can.

All. At. The. Same. Time.

You don’t know whether to laugh, cry, put someone in time-out or just curl up in the bathtub in the fetal position.

That’s the Fog of Motherhood.

Who is Mommie Daze?

I’m Colleen, a  34 year old Christian wife and SAHM.

My daily ramblings cover lots of topics — Motherhood, Marriage, Recipes, Fashion, Humor, Pregnancy, Faith.

I also like to offer my readers a little something extra from time to time with fun giveaways.

David, my oldest son, is four years old. He’s funny, smart, mischievous and full of energy.

The Fog got even thicker when Wade, my baby, arrived five weeks early on Mother’s Day 2009.

I’m happily married to my best friend (and our eldest son’s namesake), Dave, who always gives me something to laugh about, whether it’s with him or at him. He works really hard to support our family, and is a talented singer, songwriter and musician.

We live in West Michigan. The blue skies and lake shore are fantastic in the summer. The cold temperatures and snow in the winter, not so much.

I hope you’ll join me as try to navigate my way through the Fog, and share the laughs and sweet moments a long the way.

How I got Here

I grew up in Northwestern Ohio and Northeasten Indiana. I am fortunate to have two loving Christian parents. I’m a pastor’s kid, teacher’s kid and an only child. Somehow I managed to survive all three.

I graduated from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN where I majored in Communications and met my husband. After college I worked for a year as a newspaper reporter, but quickly discovered that with a non-confrontational personality, it wasn’t the right job for me. I left that to manage marketing and communications for a small company.

I grew up thinking that I would be a career woman. But sitting in my cubicle day-dreaming of all the “homemaking” things I could be doing instead, I realized what I really wanted was to just be a wife and mom. So after seven years, I quit my job and had a baby.

When I quit my job, we cut our income in half. It was a big leap of faith, but we learned to live on a smaller budget and the Lord has provided everything we need. Sometimes we have a little extra, sometimes we have a little less, but we always have just enough.
